All About Cellular or Honeycomb Shades

Posted on: January 23rd, 2014 by blindsetc No Comments

Cellular shades are honestly not the first thing that comes to mind when I think about window coverings.  Everyone knows mini blinds and vertical blinds, but cellular shades are increasing in popularity due to their energy efficient qualities, the new fabrics and the cordless option making them one of the most child safe blinds.  Cellular blinds can be just what your window needs.

When choosing new window treatments for your home there are a few things to think about.  Privacy is probably most important; after all, who wants their neighbors peeking in to their homes.  Our wide selection of cellular shades offer outstanding privacy.

Cellular shades come in a wide variety of light filtering options.  You can select something  sheer for living spaces like kitchens or family rooms that will let the sun shine in and keep rooms feeling bright and cheery.   Room darkening or black out shade is perfect for media rooms and bedrooms, where sun isn’t always welcomed.

Day and Night Cellular Shades

While Cellular shades don’t allow for the option of being able to tilt open like blinds, we have the perfect solution.  With our top down/bottom up feature that small problem is no longer an issue.  You can have privacy while still enjoying natural light.

Finding a child safe window covering can also be a factor when selecting blinds for your home.  Cellular shades are available in a cordless options which is just what you need when you have small children that you want to keep safe as there are virtually no visible cords.

Another wonderful thing about cellular shades is how small they stack when pulled up.  If you have a window with a lovely view they are perfect for staying out of the way when you need them to.  They also fit beautifully behind shutters or curtains, add a  blackout cellular shade   for total light control.

Cellular shades are also known to be great insulators because of their long channels that trap air.  They are great for drafty windows and can also help with heating and cooling cost.

Another option is using them on sliding glass doors in a vertical application.  Also know as slide views, this is a wonderful  for sliding glass doors that may be in bedrooms or media rooms.

Is Green Design Important to Interior Designers?

Posted on: August 9th, 2013 by blindsetc No Comments

Wood blinds in Los Angeles and green designIs green design important to you?  Are you concerned with the quality of your living environment and its effect on your health?

If you are building a new house or designing a room addition you may be working with an interior designer and building contractor.  A good designer will give you input on the best furnishings for your home including everything from the best flooring to the color of the wood blinds yo will use.  Be sure to discuss with them that healthy spaces are important to you and how their suggestions can work with your goal.

Recently the US Green Building Council interviewed ASID on the role of green design and its impact on wallets and health.

Why is green interior design important? How does it impact occupants and the environment?

RF: One of the most important aspects of sustainability is health – health of the indoor environment, of the occupants, of the materials. Interior designers offer specialized knowledge of interiors materials and FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment) that promote good indoor air quality, are toxin-free, and are water/energy-efficient. For example, formaldehyde is a known carcinogen that is ubiquitous in furniture and cabinetry. Understanding the health implications of this substance and how to source formaldehyde-free products demonstrates the value interior designers bring to the table.

Congratulations to MASS Design Group!

Posted on: August 9th, 2013 by blindsetc No Comments

We want to extend our congratulations to the MASS Design Group for winning the Design For Humanity Award from the American Society of Interior Designers.

Their work is truly inspiring.

In the award ASID says

“MASS Design Group is a nonprofit architectural firm that designs, builds and advocates for buildings that improve lives. Their work, ranging from Rwanda and Uganda to Haiti and the U.S., focuses on leveraging architecture and design to become an engine for better health, economic growth and long-term, systemic sustainability. MASS’s philosophy hinges on the adage that design is never neutral, it can either help or it can hurt – and they insist every design decision approaches or achieves the former.”

Wood Blinds Can Complete Your “Look”.

Posted on: August 8th, 2013 by blindsetc No Comments

Wood blinds can be just the finishing touch you need to complete the look of your Los Angeles home.

Wood blinds business and residential window treatment needs in all of Southern California including: Los Angeles, Riverside, Ontario, Pasadena, Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana and Redlands. There are, of course, several options you need to decide on when in reference to the cords.  As we already discussed cordless options create a safer environment for children and pets while traditional corded blinds are a great option if you do not have pets or children.

There are several considerations to take into account when choosing your wood blinds; style, slat size, wood type and the finish.

Style

Blinds in general come as horizontal or vertical with horizontal being the most popular.  There are also blinds known as top down / bottom up blinds that can create a feeling of privacy while letting in light from above.

Slat Size

Slat sizes for wood blinds can range from 1 to 3 inches in width.  Choosing from within this range is largely a personal preference however smaller windows will tend to look better with smaller slats while larger window areas will want to have the wider with slats.

Wood Types

There are also a wide range of types of wood that can be used for blinds .

Genuine wood such as pine, maple or basswood, create an elegant feeling and create a sense of quality wherever they are placed. They are generally a little more expensive than wood blinds but are unequalled in quality and appearance.  They can also be finished to match exactly with the decor of your room giving you greater flexibility.

Finish

We have a range of finishes for your natural wood blinds however if you buy blinds that are unfinished you can create your own distinctive look by combining paints and stains with texture to create any faux or vintage finish you can think of.  The choice is up to you and the possibilities are endless.

Wood blinds can be just the finishing touch you need to complete the look of your home in Los Angeles, Riverside, Pasadena or Rancho Cucamonga.

What Blinds Are Safe For Children?

Posted on: August 8th, 2013 by blindsetc No Comments

When discussing adding new blinds to a child’s room for a family that moved to Rancho Cucamonga, the subject of window covering safety came up.

safe blinds for children and pets in Los Angeles, Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Fontana, PasadenaSo I wanted to make sure that you are aware of the dangers of hanging cords and how to reduce or eliminate those dangers.

There are many options for selecting shades or blinds for a child’s room.  There are many styles and colors to choose from such as vertical blinds, mini blinds or roman shades.  There is a wide variety of colors and textures to choose from to match the items already in the child room.  However, where children and pets are concerned safety is of utmost importance.

It should be common knowledge that children and pets can play with and become entangled with hanging chords.  This does not have to happen as we have cordless options for most of our blinds and shades.  Using blinds that do not have a cord is both attractive and safer for homes and rooms with pets and animals.

They work easily and efficiently and provide a clean look to the window.  Many people prefer to use the cordless option even when they do not have children or pets.  When viewing blinds on our site make sure you check to see if the cordless option is available for you on the blinds you’re interested in and let us know when you speak with us on the phone that you would like this safety option.  Here is a video that explains how to keep your children and pets safe when installing blinds in your home.
